Cara is a graduate of
Monmouth University, where she acquired a Bachelor's
degree in Biology and an Associates degree in
Chemistry.
She knew from a very
young age that she wanted to work with animals
and so in her senior year completed a cooperative
learning experience at the Monmouth County SPCA
in Eatontown, NJ.?She worked there through graduation,
finding the work physically demanding, but also
very rewarding!?She went on to work at a small
veterinary clinic for a few years, but continued
to volunteer at the MCSPCA shelter, from which
she acquired her four-pawed best friends Tasha,
Handsome, Princess, Cutie, Uma and finally, the
Pokey little Pud(dy tat).
Since April 2002 Cara
has been working the second and weekend shifts
at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Red Bank,
NJ.?Though she has witnessed
some very heartbreaking cases in the emergency
and critical care departments, she knows that
even when animals cannot be cured, we can ease
their pain and suffering.?In this she finds
comfort.
Recently, Cara has begun
volunteering for the Field Services division
of the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, a volunteer
non-profit animal protection program delivering
veterinary medical services and humane education
to underserved rural communities in the United
States and throughout the world.?Volunteers,
including veterinarians, veterinary students,
veterinary technicians and technician students, travel,
at their own expense, to lower income areas of
the United States and South and Central America
to provide care for animals in need, improve
the skills of veterinarians and veterinary technicians?
hopefully inspiring their participation in animal
protection efforts.
Cara feels fortunate
enough to be able to get to these locations to help
the animals who otherwise would not receive veterinary
care.
In her spare time, Cara
enjoys reading, listening
to local musicians and watching independent films. |
