When
we bring a pet into our home, we faithfully commit ourselves
to the lifelong care of our pet.
We want to protect our
pet(s) and provide the best medical care possible.
Save U.S. Pets Foundation was founded by the dedicated
veterinarians of Red Bank Veterinary Hospital who recognized
the need to establish a source of financial assistance
for families who otherwise would not be able to provide lifesaving
care for their pets.
Almost all veterinarians encounter clients with serious
financial constraints. Medical conditions that
were
once considered fatal or devastating can now be treated
successfully. However, the related and welcome medical
advances can carry a high cost. While we recognize
many veterinarians often
donate their services, pets
are sometimes euthanised because their owners cannot
afford the
necessary treatment.
The Save U.S. Pets Foundation Grant Process
- A NEW JERSEY
BASED PARTICIPATING VETERINARIAN APPLIES TO THE
FOUNDATION
for
a grant to
provide financial assistance to a client with a pet
that needs lifesaving
medical care.
- The Save U.S. Pets Foundation Grant Review Committee
makes a determination to accept or reject the application.
If approved, this committee determines the amount
of funds to be provided.
- A check is sent to the Participating Veterinarian
to underwrite the cost of lifesaving medical treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions from Pet Owners
- Can I apply for the grant?
No, a pet owner may not directly apply for a grant
from the Save U.S. Pets Foundation. The grant application
process is driven solely by
a pets’ treating veterinarian. Only the treating
veterinarian, not the pet owner, can apply for
a Foundation grant.
- When is a pet owner eligible for funds?
A pet must be in need of lifesaving veterinary
care and it’s owner must meet other eligibility
requirements to receive financial assistance.
- What constitutes “lifesaving” veterinary
care?
A pet is considered to need “lifesaving” veterinary
care if he has a life threatening but non-terminal
medical condition and the condition being treated has
a reasonable chance for a full recovery.
- What criteria does a person
and pet have to meet to receive grant money?
| 1. |
The
animal is owned, has been cared for and has
not been neglected. If proof of routine
care
is not available, the doctor must make a
judgment call regarding the overall condition
of
the pet. |
| 2. |
The condition being
treated is not terminal and has a reasonable
chance for a full recovery. |
| 3. |
The owner has exhausted
all outside funding. They have applied for
Care Credit and been denied or did not qualify
for the full amount, and have been turned
down by their credit card company. The owner
must also explore other sources for assistance
like family and friends. |
| 4. |
The owner must contribute
at least 15% of the cost of care. |
- Who decides if financial assistance will
be granted?
Once the Participating Veterinarian submits
a completed grant application to the Foundation, a
grant review committee, structured to act quickly in
emergency situations, works within specific guidelines
to determine qualification.
